SB 772 will decrease prevalence of “doctor-shopping”

EAST ST. LOUIS (Dec. 13, 2017) — Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed into law SB 772, legislation that will require prescribers with an Illinois Controlled Substance License to register with and use the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP), a database that records patient prescription history.

The PMP allows physicians to check previous patient prescriptions and requests for controlled substances. Increasing the required checkpoints in advance of prescribing controlled substances will cut down on “doctor-shopping,” the practice of patients obtaining opioid prescriptions from multiple physicians.

"Trailblazer" Award
CHICAGO – State Representative Patti Bellock, R-Hinsdale, was presented with the Judy Baar Topinka “Trailblazer” Award by the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR) at the nonprofit organization’s Annual Awards Reception on December 4. The award is named for the late Judy Baar Topinka, who served as Illinois State Treasurer from 1995-2007 and Illinois State Comptroller from 2011 until her death in December 2014. Former Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno also received the same award at the reception.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized along with my friend Chris Radogno in the spirit of the late Judy Baar Topinka, a true trailblazer and both an inspiration and a mentor to many of us women in Illinois government,” Rep. Bellock said. “I thank the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform for their outstanding nonpartisan work to make our state a better place by advocating for much-needed reforms.”
Rep. Bellock had the honor of turning on the lights of the big Christmas tree in Elmhurst at the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Wilder Park on Thursday night with her grandchildren. The night was fantastic with families everywhere in the park enjoying the live Christmas music, the live reindeer, cookie decorating and of course a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
