SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale), the Minority Spokesperson on the Human Services – Appropriations Committee helped lead bipartisan negotiations that produced an agreement resulting in today’s passage of a $700 million stopgap funding measure to keep vital human services operating in the State of Illinois on a short-term basis until a complete budget is enacted.

While House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) expressed disappointment that critical funding for public safety and state correctional facilities were omitted from the bill, House Amendment 2 to Senate Bill 2038, the House of Representatives nevertheless voted to provide much needed funding to keep the state’s social services infrastructure from collapsing.
“One of my chief concerns during this budget impasse has been its impact on the most vulnerable in our community; particularly the children, families, seniors and disabled who depend upon a reliable safety net. That’s why today’s vote was so important,” Rep. Bellock said.
“To be clear, it’s not a solution. It’s a bridge to help those who need help the most until a complete budget is in place. It’s also a show of good faith that Democrats and Republicans can come together and meet our commitments to the state’s most vulnerable population.”
Senate Bill 2038 passed the House by a vote of 111-0-3 before being unanimously approved by the State Senate 56-0. It now goes to Governor Bruce Rauner for signature.
