Rep. Bellock meets with Melinda Gates

CHICAGO– State Representative Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale) participated in a small meeting of 10 women legislative leaders from around the country to talk about women's' and family issues with Melinda Gates at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) annual summit at McCormick Place on August 10. Gates is an accomplished businesswoman, renowned philanthropist and wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

Together with her husband, Mrs. Gates is the co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the largest private foundation in the world. Their work focuses on helping lift the world’s poorest people out of hunger and poverty; harnessing advances in science and technology to save lives; and, here at home, improving high school and postsecondary education for children throughout the United States.

In their meeting, Rep. Bellock shared ideas with Mrs. Gates on public policy regarding women and children; including the opportunities and challenges faced by state legislators in improving the health and prosperity of families here in Illinois.
