Governor Acts to restore $26 million in social service/public health grants

Governor Rauner announced this afternoon the restoration of approximately $26 million in funding for social service and public health grants; after new forecasts show the state estimated to bring in an extra $300 - $500 million in revenue for this year than previously anticipated.

The grants including funding for autism services, assistance for the homeless, maintaining the Illinois Tobacco Quitline, funeral and burial assistance for the poor; and other important social services.

I applaud Governor Rauner for restoring this funding and putting the needs of the most vulnerable families in our community first. There is no question that Illinois continues to face very difficult budget challenges in the weeks and months ahead. However, the Governor has done the right thing by prioritizing this extra revenue toward helping those most in need.
